The Nanpu Bridge crosses the Huangpu river in Shanghai. Shanghai has seen huge population growth, averaging 10% growth per year and is now the biggest city in the world with 23.5 million residents. This bridge and the Inner Ring Road it connects, were built to cope with this population growth, and act as a shell around the city centre, protecting it from large volumes of traffic passing across the city.
